Stories from the collection

Spend a little time with the people, gatherings and concerns behind the records.

  1. Gathered in Bolivia, 2012

The General Synod met in Santa Cruz de la Sierra from 1 to 4 November 2012. Archbishop Follick’s letter sent blessings to those gathering and thanked Archbishop Lorite and Archbishop Firestone for their work. The letter and surviving photographs bring us closer to that occasion.

  2. Remembering neighbours far from home

In September 2015, Archbishop Palmer wrote to the Communion about migrants and refugees seeking safety in Europe. His letter invited prayer and compassion for people facing hardship and uncertainty.

  3. Christmas hope in a troubled world

Archbishop Palmer’s Christmas message of December 2015 spoke of the Incarnation and God’s love amid the troubles of the world. Its closing blessing offers a small glimpse of the pastoral correspondence preserved here.

  4. Learning for ministry

A surviving International Faith Theological Seminary prospectus describes preparation for Anglican ministry in an African setting. Worship, preaching, spiritual guidance, teaching and dialogue appear together in its account of a minister’s calling. We share it as a chapter in the history of theological learning.

129th Anniversary of the Free Protestant Episcopal Church of England

A history of faith, freedom and commitment to the Gospel.

To celebrate 129 years is not merely to remember a historic date. It is to reaffirm a commitment: to preserve our identity, honour our history, strengthen our Worldwide Communion and continue proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ with freedom, dignity, love and responsibility.
